Sailpast planned  by CYAA (Vic)

Martin Ryan , the current CYAA President and owner of Mercedes III has suggested the Classic’s in Melbourne conduct a sailpast  prior to their Feb 16 Sunday Race in memory of Ted Kaufman. The idea is for Kaufman’s most noted yacht, Mercedes III in company with Boambillee and Tina of Melbourne, will lead a short sailpast starting at 10:00am adjacent to the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria marina walkway. Sayonara and Acrospire are to follow with the remaining Classic Fleet. ICYAA has asked individual  Association members at all the yacht clubs around the bay to ask their Club Captains to assist in this sail past by flying their red Ensign or National at half-mast on their signalling mast  from 9:55 to 10:15am.

1968 Hobart winner,Koomooloo, has always been recognized as similarly important Kaufman designed yacht. The 1960’s Kaufmann’s designs including Koomooloo and   Mercedes III put Australia on the map in competitive Ocean Racing.  Koomooloo was  sailed out of RQYS in the years up to her her sad loss. RQYS  will be supporting the Ted Kaufman memorial sail past with its ensign at half mast from 09:55 to 10:15 on Sunday the 16th Feb.
